Tour Our Facility

Welcome to our online tour

and frequently asked questions page.

You may also visit us in person any time during our regular boarding kennel business hours or by appointment.

Canine Facility

Trillium Pet Care has a unique floor plan which divides our kennel into separate sections.  This feature allows us to board a large number of pets while maintaining the feel of a smaller “home like” facility.  Having multiple kennels sections allows us to segregate pets as needed…such as young noisy pets away from quite senior pets or females in season away from intact males, and so on.

We feel this added ability will enhance your pets visit and make its stay even more enjoyable.  Trillium Pet Care is heated and air conditioned for year round comfort.  Our whole house air exchange system removes stale air and assures refreshing pure oxygen for our canine guests.  Crisp gingham curtains add to the homelike feel of our facility.  A radio plays soft music to ease your pets visit.  Trillium Pet Care is inspected and approved bi-annually by the PA Department of Agriculture Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.  We have been a State Licensed boarding facility since 1997.

Q  How can I help my pet enjoy its visit?

A  Keep an upbeat and cheerful attitude.  Get your pet excited when you arrive and say a quick and happy “good-bye, see ya soon”.  If you are upset and sad your pet will sense your mood and remain agitated when you leave.  Also, do NOT give your dog any unusual goodbye treats.  The excitement of arriving at the kennel combined with eating food your pet is not accustomed to could upset its system and cause diarrhea or vomiting!

Likewise, when you return home with your pet it will again be very excited to see you…excited pets tend to gulp food and water causing digestive upset.  So, give your pet only a small meal at its regular time and limit its water intake for a few hours after you return home.  Giving lots of “goodies” may make your pet feel ill ... but lots of hugs and kisses will do no harm!

Q  What should I bring for my pets visit?

A  1.  Vaccination Records

       2.  Emergency contact number (cell#, motel, friend or family who could reach you in an emergency)

       3.  Supply of your pets REGULAR feed in a sealed container

       4.  Supply of pets medication if applicable

       5.  Toys & treats

       6.  Washable blankets & fabric toys are welcome Nov. 1st to April 31st

       7.  A proper fitting buckle collar. (For safety, slip action collars will be removed during your pet's stay.)

The “orange” kennel section consists of 8 enclosures each measuring an enormous 6 feet wide and 8 feet deep!  These enclosures are divided with a 4 foot high solid cement block wall topped with 2 feet of chain link fence.

Each enclosure features a large plexi-glass window and a plexi-glass dog door.  The kennel is flooded with natural sunlight and the windows provide a pleasant view for visiting guests.

Each unit opens via dog door to an individual 48 square foot outdoor exercise area.  All exercise areas at Trillium Pet Care are covered with a thick layer (6” to 12”) of limestone chips.  This natural surface makes a clean and sanitary place for pets to romp and play.  The alkaline nature of limestone along with the excellent drainage will leave your pet smelling fresh unlike cement runs which can hold urine odor or bacteria.

Q  My pet is disabled (deaf, blind, unable to walk, etc.), may I still board it?

A  Most likely yes.  Please discuss your pets’ specific disability with a member of our care team.  Contact us.

Q  My female is in season or pregnant, may I still bring her?

A  Females in season are welcome.  The unique design of our facility enables us to separate her into a kennel section where there are no intact males.  There is NO extra fee for females in season!   Trillium Pet Care will gladly board pregnant females up until one week prior to her due date.

If your female should whelp puppies while in our care there will be an extra fee and a mandatory veterinary checkup.

Q  My pet is aggressive and has bit before, may I still board it?

A  Please phone ahead and discuss your pets’ individual behavior issues with our care team.  Depending on your dogs type of aggression (dog aggression, stranger aggression, fear biter, etc.) we may or may not be able to care for it.    We may even arrange for a “practice day” at the kennel to see if we can work with your pet’s individual needs.  Owners are responsible for their pets’ actions.  Trillium Pet Care reserves the right to refuse any animal for any reason.

The “lemon” kennel section is the mirror image of the “Orange” and also features eight huge 6’x8’ apartments with windows and individual exercise areas.

Trillium Pet Care chose the highest grade of aluminized chain link fencing…free of the sharp barbs seen on less expensive galvanized fencing.  A “knuckle to knuckle” finish means there are no sharp edges on the top or bottom of the fence.  This makes it the safest choice for the care of pets.  The smaller mesh weave is designed to protect tiny toy breeds while the heavy gauge wire is strong enough to contain giant breeds.  All fencing at Trillium Pet Care is 6 feet high.  All individual runs are surrounded by a second 6’ high security fence.

Dogs are given 4 outdoor exercise periods each day under the watchful supervision of our care team.

The duration of each open-air exercise time is 15 minutes to one hour, depending upon the individual pets’ condition and coat type as well as the weather conditions outside.

Q  My pet is on daily medication, will you dispense it?

A  Trillium Pet Care will be happy to dispense your pets’ necessary medications for the nominal fee of $.50 per dose.  Medications should be labeled with the pet’s name, ailment, dosage, prescribing Veterinarian, name & brand of medication.  If your pet is taking the medication orally, please accustom him to taking it with a favorite treat…this will make dispensing the medicine less stressful for your pet while here at Trillium Pet Care.  We routinely care for pets with epilepsy, diabetes, and other non contagious ailments.  Please pack extra medication just in case your travel plans are delayed.  Sorry, but we cannot board or groom contagious pets.

The “lime” kennel section boasts 8 more enclosures.  These apartments measure a comfortable 4 feet wide and 6 feet deep.  They too are divided with a solid cement block wall topped with 2 feet of chain link fencing.  Half of these units are also topped with a chain link ceiling to provide a safe area for the housing of those few pets known to fence climb.

Each enclosure has a plexi-glass guillotine style dog door which provides cheerful natural sunlight, a dogs eye view of the countryside; and when opened, access to the individual outdoor exercise area.

Each exercise run in the West Kennel is 4 feet wide and 12 feet long.

Q  My Veterinarian is advising against annual booster shots, may I still bring my pet?

A  Yes…under the following conditions.  Your pet MUST have a current Rabies vaccination.  This is Pennsylvania State Law.  Dogs must also have a bordetella vaccination.  We will accept “Titer Test” results in exchange for the DHLPP booster – the results of the Titer Test must be annual and must be accompanied by a letter from your Vet.   Please inform your Veterinarian that you intend to board/groom with our kennel and follow his/her advice.  Contact our care team with any concerns.

Q  What if my pet becomes ill or injured while at your kennel?

A  Trillium Pet Care reserves the right to call a Veterinarian or give advisable attention to your pet.  In the event of an emergency we will make every attempt to contact your family Vet who is familiar with your pet.  Should we fail to reach your Vet, we will use the licensed Veterinarian of our choice.  Pet owners are responsible for all Veterinary expenses incurred.

Our “plum” kennel is comprised of nine suites each measuring an impressive 4 feet wide and 12 feet deep.  These too are divided with a solid cement block wall and chain link fencing.

The units in this section are used to board dogs during our busy summer weekends and during Holiday seasons.  This extra boarding space assures you, our loyal customers, that we will always have room for your beloved pet!
Large windows on either side of the room provide lots of cheery sunlight. Pets housed here are led by a care team member several times daily to a fenced outdoor area for exercise and toilet business.

Q  My pet has a special diet and drinks lots of water, can you accommodate?

A  Of course!  We prefer to feed pets their regular diet, so please bring a sufficient supply in a sealed container.  Pack enough for a couple extra days in case your travel plans are delayed.

Pets on homemade diets (ie. “BARF” Bones and Raw Foods) should have the food pre-cooked.  We will store food as needed in our freezer or refrigerator.  A microwave is available to thaw or warm meals.

We also keep on hand can openers, measuring cups, lids and spoons – you will not need to bring these items from home.  Trillium Pet Care will provide your pet with sanitary stainless steel dishes for food and water in a size appropriate for your breed; do not bring dishes from home.  All pets will have free access to clean cool water 24 hours a day.  Please inform our care team of any allergies or specific concerns.

The “sky” holding kennel is comprised of eight units, which are 4’ x 4’ and one unit which is 4’ x 8’.  These units are also divided with solid cement block walls topped with chain link fencing.

This kennel section is used to temporarily hold pets that are waiting to be groomed or who are waiting to be picked up by their owners.

Trillium Pet Care's entire facility features sealed concrete floors, which slope to an open gutter system.  Our vigilant care team inspects all kennels periodically throughout the day for cleanliness to assure that your pet will be maintained in a sanitary and comfortable environment.

Q  May my pet have its bed/blanket from home?

A  Yes and no…We provide all dogs with a cozy rest surface (Kennel Deck, Pet Cot, or Kuranda), so it is not necessary for you to bring bedding from home.  However, from November 1st through April 31st you are welcome to bring a small washable blanket from home for NO extra fee.  Baby blankets and beach towels are ideal.  Stuffed beds and foam filled beds are not completely washable and are not appropriate.

Between May 1st and October 31st no fabric items from home are permitted to enter the kennel…this is added precaution against flea eggs or larva entering our facility.  Please respect our dedication to providing your pet with a parasite free environment.

For those who desire extra comfort for their pet we offer the rental of our Fleece Dog Blankets (artificial lamb’s wool) for $5.00 per visit.  These Fleece Blankets are available year round and are laundered here at the kennel.  (Note to destructive chewers… there is a $30.00 replacement fee if your pet destroys our Fleece Blanket)

If your pet has been diagnosed by a Veterinarian with a joint problem that requires specific bedding, please feel free to bring the orthopedic bed from home any time of year.

Q  My pet prefers to sleep in its pet carrier/crate, may we bring it along?

A  Absolutely, our extra large enclosures are spacious enough to set up your pets crate and still allow him/her plenty of room to move about.

Canine Bedding

Each enclosure is equipped with a rest surface for your dog at no additional charge.  We have available three types of dog beds to tailor suit the comfort needs of your individual pet.

KURANDA beds are comprised of a PVC pipe frame construction with a canvas or vinyl sleep surface.  The patented design of KURANDAtm beds makes them virtually chew proof.  This is the bed we use for the majority of our guests and is especially well suited for giant breeds and those pets with joint problems.  KURANDAtm beds are 6 to 8 inches high and can hold up to 200 pounds!  These beds are extremely comfortable and the dogs love to snuggle up on them.

PET COT beds are constructed from a steel pipe frame with a vinyl mesh sleep surface.  We like these beds for our incontinent and older guests.  The mesh fabric allows leaking fluid to escape and air to flow freely to the pet’s skin.  This maintains a healthy, dry, and very cozy surface for naps.  PET COT tm beds are just 4 inches high and are ideal for older dogs and toy breeds.

KENNEL DECK rest boards are comprised of a solid plastic resin and are virtually indestructible.  This is the bed we choose for puppies who are teething and for those few pets who are destructive.  We also like to place several of these KENNEL DECKtm rest boards in the enclosures of those male dogs who like to “mark” (urinate) in their enclosure…the slats allow liquid to flow away while keeping your boy high and dry!

Extra large beds are available for giant breeds.  Additional beds are on stock for multiple pet households so that each pet may have it’s own bed.

Between November 1st and April 31st owners are welcome to bring a machine washable blanket from home (no extra fee).  Please do not bring cedar, foam filled, or bean bag beds…the entire blanket must be machine washable!

For a nominal fee owners who desire added comfort for their pet may rent our own fleece blankets any time of year for $5.00 per visit.  Our fleece blankets are made of double thick artificial lambs wool.  They are laundered here and are guaranteed free of parasites!

Fabric items from home are not permitted in the kennels between May 1st and October 31st as added precaution against flea eggs or larva entering our building.  Do not bring blankets or stuffed toys during these warm weather months.  Please respect our dedication to providing a pest free environment for our guests.

Q  My pet has a favorite toy; may we bring it to the kennel?

A  Toys from home are certainly welcome.  We want your pet to enjoy its time here!  Oversized toys work best, as small/flat toys can be lost under the fencing (and disappear in our plumbing).  Large Kongs, giggle balls, & treat balls are ideal.  Please mark your pets name on each toy with permanent marker.  Trillium Pet Care will make every effort to return toys from home; however we cannot be responsible for lost items.  Please do not send irreplaceable heirloom toys.  Fabric toys are welcome from November 1st through April 31st.

Trillium Pet Care will remove any item from your pet which we deem a choking or ingesting danger.

Canine Play Area

Trillium Pet Care now boasts an impressive 60’ x 80’ fenced play area for dogs.  We offer owners the option of choosing to allow play time for their dog daily or every other day.  Playtime is a 15 minute session in the fenced area at the cost of $2.00 per session.

There is no additional fee for pets from the same household provided they may play together.  For obvious safety reasons, pets will not be allowed to play with other owner’s pets.  We highly recommend the play area for young dogs, high-energy dogs, and our extended stay guests.

Grooming Salon

Trillium Pet Care features a modern groom room running central through our facility.  The salon features multiple windows that offer our care team staff a view into the boarding kennels…this feature allows us to constantly monitor the activities of our guests without disturbing those who may be sleeping!  The groom room features a PET LIFT stainless steel bathtub with a foldaway walk up ramp and drying rack.  Pets are bathed with our HYDROSURGE 2000 bathing system.  A separate shower stall is available to bathe giant breeds with our Bath Master bathing system.  Pets are dried with our air force dryer and clipped with our CLIPPER VAC system.  Click here for more information on Dog & Cat Grooming.

Cattery

Our Cattery offers overnight lodging in a feline exclusive area.  Each kitty townhouse features a spacious multi level floor to ceiling suite designed for your kitties comfort and amusement.  Kitties may enjoy window perches offering a view to the perennial garden, bird feeders; and beyond to the pasture, farm, and woods.  Cable TV makes our Cattery feel like home! We provide cats with a cozy blanket, litter box and litter – and lots of love.

Like our kennels, our Cattery is a vaccine safe facility.  Click here to view and print the required immunizations.  Any cat over 7 months of age must be spayed or neutered.  For the health of our guest, we will not accept any contagious animals; therefore, we will not care for cats who are positive for feline leukemia, feline AIDS, or ringworm!

Did you know we groom cats?  Our talented groomers can help your kitty maintain a shiny healthy coat with regular grooming.  Our popular de-shedding service called “carding” is included in every kitty groom. Cat grooming will not only reduce shedding and matting, but it can prevent those nasty hairballs as well.  In addition, we offer Soft Claws nail caps to prevent damage from unwanted scratching.

Our Cattery is recently renovated and ready to pamper your feline friend.  Plans are underway to create an outside “Jungle Gym” for kitties to have a safe area to explore the great outdoors!
